The Parish of High Wych is in the UK County of Hertfordshire, District of East Hertfordshire. It lays between Harlow and Bishops Stortford, close to the small market town of Sawbridgeworth. It comprises principally of the villages of High Wych and Allens Green; the small hamlet of Trimms Green marks the northern limit of the Parish. The picture above shows an old view of the centre of High Wych, with St.James The Great Church spire in the background. Our bus shelter now takes the place of the barrow on the green in the right foreground. The map below outlines the boundaries of the Parish and proximity to nearby towns - the red crosses denote our two Churches:

  • High Wych village has the following amenities: allotments, St. James Church, preschool, nursery and primary school, the Memorial Village Hall and the King George V playing field. There are two pubs (The Half Moon - currently closed and The Rising Sun), a Village Stores & Post Office and the Manor of Groves Hotel, Golf & Country Club.
  • Allens Green has a long village green at its centre; the petite Chapel of St. Anne and a village hall (fomerly a school). The Queens Head pub is opposite the green.
